Moon City Pub
Moon City Pub, a Commercial Street bar that shuttered at the end of last year, is back in business after a trio of former employees bought the venture and reopened it Aug. 6. Corie Godsy, Jesse Mikrut and Teri Perry are the pub’s new owners after buying it in June from Teresa Emerson. Godsy said the trio, who own the business via Moon City JCT LLC, paid the $300,000 asking price, adding the transaction included the 2,200-square-foot building at 420 W. Commercial St. She declined to estimate additional startup costs. It’s a first-time ownership venture for friends Godsy, Mikrut and Perry, who all have been bartenders at the pub, which opened in 2016. Godsy said she and Perry worked there under Emerson, while Mikrut worked with her under the bar’s first owners, Mike and Glenda Pavia. Aside from its drink menu of craft cocktails and wine, Moon City Pub has 12 beers on tap, as well as bottled and canned beer. A few food items also are served, including a meatball sub and Chicago-style, all-beef hot dogs. Food prices range $9-$14.

Sully Loves Sugar
Marshfield retail shop Sully Loves Sugar more than doubled its space with a May 8 move to 1329 Spur Drive, Ste. 50. Owner Amanda Stroup said the new storefront fills 3,800 square feet within the same shopping center on Spur Drive. Relocation and renovation costs were $10,000, Stroup said, adding she signed a one-year lease for $1,840 per month with T&F Commercial Properties LLC. She said the five-employee Sully Loves Sugar had outgrown the original space it occupied for the past five years, adding she plans to eventually use it as an addition to the new retail location. The store’s inventory includes bulk candies, pet products and children’s items, such as toys, games and clothing. Stroup said the shop also plans to soon add dressing rooms and more inventory. Additionally, the larger store allowed bakery 2 Kids and a Crumb LLC to open in the space, said Stroup, who also is co-owner of Figgi’s Gift Bar, which opened last year in Rogersville.

Enable Bookkeeping
Springfield marketing industry veteran Neil Frost went into business for himself by launching Enable Bookkeeping LLC on July 22. Frost, who is certified as a QuickBooks ProAdvisor, said the new home-based venture is bookkeeping services for small businesses, adding he can help clients with their invoices and inventory management. A member of Springfield Business Journal’s 2014 class of Men of the Year, Frost’s career in marketing has included work at Noble, CoxHealth and Mercy Springfield Communities. Frost said his switch to bookkeeping and his own business came after he was let go from The Whitlock Co., where he worked for two and a half years as marketing director. Enable Bookkeeping has a goal of five to seven clients in its first year, said Frost, declining to disclose startup costs. He said services can be provided virtually or in person, adding he currently is the company’s lone employee.
