The second Queen City store for West Des Moines, Iowa-based Hy-Vee Inc. opened Feb. 22, over a decade after the grocer made its Springfield debut. Its 93,000-square-foot store at 2150 E. Sunshine St. employs nearly 600, including over 130 full-time workers, according to Hy-Vee spokesperson Christina Gayman. Jim Deitchler is district store director, which also employs Jake Dryer and Mike Montgomery as co-store managers. In-store features include a Wahlburgers restaurant, Starbucks, a Designer Shoe Warehouse and a Joe Fresh clothing department. Its wine and spirits department includes walk-in spaces for beer, a humidor and wine room. Company officials declined to disclose the project’s final cost, which previously was reported as $12.7 million in 2012, when store plans were first proposed. Hy-Vee Construction, a subsidiary, served as both general contractor and architect for the project, which also has a gas station and convenience store on-site. Springfield’s first Hy-Vee opened in 2011 at 1720 W. Battlefield Road.

Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Missouri Chapter
The Springfield office for the Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Missouri Chapter moved Dec. 13 to Hammons Tower, 901 St. Louis St., Ste. 702. The organization spent the past five years at 3645 South Ave. in the Kickapoo Corners shopping center, said Alzheimer’s Association spokesperson Jacob Simburger. He said relocation and renovation costs were $5,000, declining to disclose lease terms for the 1,700-square-foot office space. Ed Clay, region leader in the nonprofit’s St. Louis office, oversees the three-employee Springfield agency, Simburger said. The organization provides education, support groups and client services for those living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, as well as their caretakers. He said the nonprofit’s office is currently open only by appointment, due to COVID-19 precautions. However, clients also can access virtual offerings of the association’s programs, such as personalized care consultations and caregiver training and relief.

Dynamic EVC
A trio of longtime Ozarks area businesspeople partnered Dec. 6 to open Dynamic EVC, a supplier of charging products and services for electric vehicles. At 3005 W. Chestnut Expressway, the company operates in 22,000 square feet of shared space with directional boring and drilling contractor L&B Services LLC. Dynamic EVC co-owner John Lorenz, who also owns L&B Services, said he partnered in the new venture with Larry Schmitt and Barry Davis. Lorenz declined to disclose startup costs or lease terms. Schmitt has past management experience, including with Silver Dollar City and The Track Family Fun Parks, while Davis retired in 2021 after three decades with SRC Holdings Corp. Dynamic EVC, which employs seven, provides electric vehicle charging services for businesses and property owners, including charging station procurement, installation, networking, service and maintenance. According to officials, the company has wholesale vendor agreements with charger station manufacturers such as EVgo, Tesla and Tritium.
