F45 Training
Springfield couple Joe and Bethany Mizell opened a local franchise of Australia-based F45 Training on Oct. 17 at 1937 W. Republic Road. Joe Mizell said the company operates over 1,000 locations of the fitness concept, which stands for functional 45-minute workout sessions. F45 offers cardio and resistance classes, at $20 for a single class or $110 for an eight-class pack, according to its website. Mizell said the 2,000-square-foot space accommodates up to 30 people per class but also offers virtual sessions. The couple declined to disclose startup costs or the five-year lease rate with EYM Group LLC. A city building permit lists a declared valuation of $150,000 for infill work. Joe Mizell has a background in sales, while his wife has 25 years of health care experience, including the last 15 years as a nurse for CoxHealth. The franchisees employ eight at F45, which is the first occupant of the 2017-built strip center between Burger King and Price Cutter at the Republic Road and Kansas Expressway intersection.

Seattle Roast Coffee
The former home of a downtown Starbucks store has java brewing again with the Oct. 21 opening of Seattle Roast Coffee. Owner and developer Morris Dock said his 2,000-square-foot shop at 401 South Ave. is the first local venue to serve the Seattle Roast Blue Nile coffee blend. The menu has lattes, cappuccinos and cold brew, as well as pastries, quiches and salads, Dock said. Drinks range $2-$6. Beverage company Ronnoco Coffee owns the Seattle Roast brand, and Dock operates the shop under a written agreement that allows him to sell the coffee. Six employees, including managers Brandon Compton and Jill Pearson, staff the shop. Dock also served as general contractor for the infill work. A city building permit cited an estimated valuation of $20,000 for the job, though Dock declined to disclose startup costs. He’s seeking a tenant for the remaining 9,000 square feet of the downtown property left vacant in 2017 by the closure of Pyramid Foods’ grocery and liquor store Bistro Market. Pyramid Foods also operated the Starbucks store, which shuttered in January.

Domino’s
Around three months after debuting a Domino’s restaurant in Marshfield, franchisees Art Hurteau and Marty Prather of A&M Pizza Inc. opened the national pizza chain’s first store in Willard on Nov. 1. Hurteau said Ross Construction Group LLC was general contractor for the project, at 407 E. Walnut Lane, with a total investment of roughly $800,000, including equipment and franchise fees. General Manager Rick Dolney leads a staff of 26 at the 1,550-square-foot store, Hurteau said, and they plan to expand to 40 employees. Menu items include made-to-order and specialty pizzas, pastas, hot wings, oven-baked sandwiches, salads and desserts, with prices ranging $7-$19. The new store marks the 49th overall and 33rd in southwest Missouri and northwest Arkansas for the franchisees, Hurteau said. A&M Pizza acquired 15 stores in Arkansas in October for an undisclosed price. The company also operates stores in Illinois and Indiana.
