Angel Animal Hospital
Angel Animal Hospital LLC reopened Oct. 7 at 2726 S. Kansas Expressway following a temporary closure as it relocated. Officials with the veterinary hospital said it had operated at 1332 W. Sunshine St. for over 60 years. Dr. Gary Nie, who co-owns the business with Dr. Jane Flathers, said Angel Animal Hospital more than doubled its footprint in the move, filling 6,500 square feet in a standalone building. Its former West Sunshine location is 2,500 square feet. Nie said the full-service, small animal hospital purchased the Kansas Expressway building from The Bank of Missouri, adding the investment, including relocation and renovation costs, was $2.5 million. Additionally, staff size is expected to almost double to roughly 20 employees at the new location, he said. With a focus on whole body health, Angel Animal Hospital specializes in treating severe disease processes such as cancer, autoimmune disorders, allergies and emotional imbalances.

Great Dave’s Coffee Co.
After launching Great Dave’s Coffee Co. as a mobile coffee trailer last year, David Saunders opened his first brick-and-mortar shop in downtown Monett on Oct. 12. Saunders said the shop, located at 404 E. Broadway St., occupies roughly 3,000 square feet in the building, which originally was utilized as a space to manufacture carriages. It later housed a hardware store and was most recently Mocha Jo’s Coffee Cafe, which shuttered. Saunders, who owns Great Dave’s Coffee via Saunders Family Enterprises LLC, said he signed a five-year lease for an undisclosed rate with building owners Bob and Debra Berger. He said most of his startup costs were connected to the launch of his coffee trailer venture in April 2023, noting between it and the new shop, he’s invested around $150,000. Saunders said the company is named in honor of his father, Dave, who died four years ago. Aside from its drink menu, which includes coffees, espressos and lattes, Saunders said the new shop’s food options include sandwiches and soups, such as potato and tomato bisque.

Missouri Job Center
Previously on the east side of town, the Missouri Job Center began serving clients Oct. 15 at 1600 N. Campbell Ave. The Job Center’s new north-side home is in a building the city of Springfield purchased in July that replaces its former site in leased space at 2900 E. Sunshine St. City Council approved a $3.7 million purchase price for the North Campbell Avenue building, which was most recently used as offices for Convoy of Hope. The over 50,000-square-foot property was previously owned by Burning Tree Consulting LLC. City officials estimated $2.6 million in improvement costs for the property. Current building furnishings were included in the purchase. Katherine Proctor, Job Center spokesperson, said 39 staff members with the city’s former Department of Workforce Development – now part of the recently combined Department of Economic Vitality and Workforce Development – along with nine employees from the Missouri Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development, made the move to the new location.
