The city of Nixa is seeking applicants for a newly vacated City Council seat.
The council-selected member would fill the seat of Justin Orf, who officially resigned yesterday after announcing his intent at the Aug. 15 council meeting, according to a news release.
First elected to council in 2016, Orf cited professional aspirations in his resignation letter.
“I have incredible opportunities ahead that if I pursue them, I won't be able to dedicate my full attention to the people of Nixa like they deserve to have,” he said in the letter.
The District 3 seat, which covers the southwest area of Nixa, is slated to be filled by council on a temporary basis until April 2023, when residents will vote on the ballot for a member to serve the remainder of Orf's term, according to the release.
The city is accepting letters of interest from residents through Sept. 12, after which candidates will be invited to speak at the Sept. 19 council meeting. Council is scheduled to vote at its Sept. 26 meeting to appoint someone to the role.
Utah-based gourmet cookie chain Crumbl Cookies opened its first Springfield shop; interior design business Branson Upstaging LLC relocated; and Lauren Ashley Dance Center LLC added a second location.
