New Missouri State University President Richard “Biff” Williams was transported to the emergency room this morning, according to a memo he sent to staff that was provided to Springfield Business Journal.

Williams, 53, said in the email to staff, sent around noon, that he felt unwell this morning while preparing for an all-college meeting involving the Reynolds College of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities.

"Out of an abundance of caution, an ambulance was called, and I was transported to the Mercy emergency room," he said in the email. "I’m awaiting additional information but am feeling much better. I’m looking forward to returning to work."

Williams started as MSU's president on July 1, succeeding Clif Smart.
