New Mexico Attorney General Raúl Torrez's office has filed a lawsuit against Snap, the parent company of Snapchat.
The suit alleges the app's design and algorithmic recommendations "openly foster and promote illicit sexual material involving children and facilitate sextortion and the trafficking of children, drugs and guns." Snapchat is called "a breeding ground for predators to collect sexually explicit images of children and to find, groom and extort them" in the state attorney general's lawsuit.
Torrez's office also has a pending lawsuit against Facebook parent company Meta, alleging the company enables the sexual exploitation of children.
