National Science Foundation distributes $346K grant to OTC

The National Science Foundation issued a $345,725 grant to Ozarks Technical Community College.

The funding is earmarked for OTC's new automation and robotics program slated to debut in August at the Robert W. Plaster Center for Advanced Manufacturing, according to a news release. It's the first NSF grant awarded to OTC.

“It’s not every day that an institution earns a prestigious National Science Foundation grant,” said Danelle Maxwell, OTC manufacturing department chair, in the release. “It is gratifying to know that the NSF finds the curriculum and rigor in this new degree pathway worthy of a significant investment.”

The automation and robotics degree path will teach students about the operation and maintenance of automated systems used in manufacturing, along with industrial robotics, networking communications and other topics of study.

The $40 million, 120,000 square foot PMC is scheduled to open Aug. 15, according to past reporting.

During a recent Springfield Business Journal interview, PMC Executive Director Robert Randolph said project funding is almost completed, with $8 million in private donations raised toward a $10 million goal.
