A record number of students this fall are attending Missouri State University, Springfield's largest higher education institution.

The new enrollment record at MSU's Springfield campus is 25,038 students, according to a news release. That's up roughly 3.4% from last year, and it tops the previous record of 24,390 set in 2018, according to past reporting.

The MSU system, including the school's West Plains campus, additionally set a record of 26,874 students enrolled this fall.

“We’re thrilled to see record enrollment across our campuses,” MSU President Biff Williams said in the release. “This growth, especially in underrepresented students, reflects our commitment to excellence and inclusivity. It’s a testament to our dedicated faculty, strong programs and the trust students place in Missouri State to provide a transformative education.”

MSU's opening day attendance this fall at the Springfield campus was 17,639 students, according to past reporting. The university's official census day was Sept. 23.
