MSU may pay more for campus security

Posted online

Missouri State University's campus security contract with the Springfield Police Department may be increasing in price.

The MSU Board of Governors at its meeting this afternoon is scheduled to consider a roughly 7% price increase for fiscal 2023, according to the board agenda. The increase was requested by the city of Springfield and the SPD, according to MSU officials.

If approved, the new annual contract price would be $1.02 million.

The increase, which amounts to nearly $70,000, would cover higher salaries and additional benefits for the 10 officers who work at the MSU campus substation, as well as larger vehicle maintenance and repair costs.

An expected decrease in fuel, vehicle depreciation and bicycle costs slightly offset the contract increase, according to the board agenda.
