The Missouri State University Board of Governors today is scheduled to vote on an operating budget adjustment that incorporates roughly $10 million in previously withheld funds from the state.
The board's Executive Committee is slated to consider $8.4 million in maintenance and building repair projects, according to a Jan. 19 blog post by MSU President Clif Smart. In the post, Smart said he would recommend approval by the board for the capital improvements, as well as $1.7 million to be placed in reserves.
Gov. Mike Parson earlier this month released more than $68 million in federal budget stabilization fund appropriations for higher education institutions statewide. MSU was elected to receive $8.4 million, or about 12% of the total. The $1.7 million referenced by Smart was released by Parson in October.
"I want to thank Gov. Parson for once again prioritizing higher education and Missouri State University when making decisions about which funds to release as the (fiscal year) 2021 state revenue situation came into focus," Smart said in the blog post this week.
The board today is slated to vote on dedicating $7.9 million for three projects: Brick City structural repairs downtown; an Ann Kampeter Health Sciences Hall renovation at 609 E. Cherry St.; and Grand Street underpass improvements on the south side of the Springfield campus.
Additionally, the board will consider more than $566,000 for maintenance and repair projects at MSU's West Plains campus, according to the board's agenda.
The Republic School District is on track to open its Intermediate School for fifth- and sixth-grade students for the 2025-26 academic year.
