Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey's office has filed fraud charges in Taney County.
Bailey's office alleges Brian Sides, 50, allegedly defrauded consumers through his business, MyPowerGrid LLC, according to a news release. The charges allege Sides committed one felony count of financial exploitation of an elderly person and one felony count of deceptive business practices for defrauding a consumer in Taney County.
“As attorney general, I will always hold accountable those who target innocent Missourians,” Bailey said in the release. “My office will continue to obtain justice for any citizen who has been ripped off."
The charges allege that Sides in spring 2022 falsely promised to buy materials and install solar panels in exchange for up-front payments. Sides allegedly did not provide the materials or do the promised work once paid, Bailey's office claims.
A phone number listed online for MyPowerGrid was not functioning this morning.
Sides has been sued by the Missouri attorney general's office at least once before. Sides and his company, Branson West-based ABP Quality Construction Inc., were sued in 2012 by former Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster for allegedly failing to provide goods and home repair services paid for by Joplin tornado victims, according to past reporting.
