Mercy Hospital Springfield has the top grade locally in a new national report ranking the safety of U.S. hospitals.
Mercy Hospital Springfield has an A grade, the top rank possible, according to the nonprofit Leapfrog Group's fall hospital safety grades list. Leapfrog analyzes 28 metrics, including rates of preventable errors, injuries and infections.
The 1235 E. Cherokee St. hospital also scored an A in Leapfrog's rankings this spring.
“I’m so proud of our team for earning two consecutive Leapfrog A safety grades,” said David Argueta, president of Mercy Springfield Communities, in a news release. “This is a powerful testament to our quality of care and expertise, and we wouldn’t be able to earn this without co-workers who are dedicated to providing the best care possible to our patients.”

A CoxHealth spokesperson previously told Springfield Business Journal that Leapfrog uses data CoxHealth reports to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and from a survey that the health system does not participate in. According to the spokesperson, not participating in the survey can impact a hospital's Leapfrog rating.
Dame Chiropractic LLC emerged as the new name of Harshman Chiropractic Clinic LLC with the purchase of the business; Leo Kim added a second venture, Keikeu LLC, to 14 Mill Market; and Mercy Springfield Communities opened its second primary care clinic in Ozark.
