Manufacturer to invest $40M in southwest Missouri

Posted online

Des Moines, Iowa-based ingredient manufacturer Kemin Industries Inc. is planning a significant investment in southwest Missouri.

The company today is breaking ground on a $40 million, 38,000-square-foot production plant in Verona, near Monett, according to a news release.

The plans mark an expansion of Kemin's existing southwest Missouri footprint, with another facility in Sarcoxie.

“Southwest Missouri has served as an excellent place for Kemin’s production capabilities and will continue to be a great community to expand our manufacturing opportunities,” Kemin Industries President and CEO Chris Nelson said in the release. “We believe that Verona and the surrounding areas provide a talented and dedicated workforce ideal to grow our global footprint and transform the quality of life.”

The Verona plant, which has a March 2023 opening goal, is slated to employ more than 30 full-time workers upon completion.

The plant will manufacture its Proteus portfolio of moisture-retaining protein ingredients to enhance meat and poultry, according to the release and the Kemin website. Kemin earlier this year purchased Proteus Industries Inc. to increase its protein manufacturing offerings.

Kemin provides more than 500 specialty ingredients for human and animal health and nutrition, pet food and other applications.
