Longtime CEO out at American National

Posted online
Longtime American National President and CEO Gregory Ostergren is no longer working with the company, according to an employee.

Megan Clemensen, administrative assistant for Chief Marking Officer Scott Campbell, last week agreed to set up an interview about the change but could not be reached for comment by deadline this morning. Campbell and spokeswoman Heather Pering also were unavailable, and attempts to reach Ostergren were unsuccessful.

It’s unclear who is now serving in American National’s top role.

Ostergren served as CEO for the Queen City insurance company for around 26 years, according to Springfield Business Journal archives.

American National ranked 14th on SBJ’s 2016 list of the Springfield metropolitan statistical area’s largest employers with 921 employees in the region and 4,598 nationwide. The company’s local revenue in 2015 was $662.2 million, down 13.5 percent from $765.2 million in 2014, according to SBJ list research.

Ostergren, who was a member of SBJ’s 2014 class of Men of the Year, oversaw a company that writes business in all 50 states and Puerto Rico. American National, formerly known as American National Property and Casualty Co., offers automotive, home, life, commercial and agriculture insurance, according to its website.

He has some 40 years of experience in the insurance industry.
