Layoffs rise to 5-month high in August, report says

U.S. layoffs rose to a five-month high in August, according to a report from career services firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas.

Layoffs were counted at roughly 75,000 in August.

That's up 193% from July and the highest single-month total since March.
