Springfield's Kuat Racks is sponsoring the world championships for a cycling event that's rarely held in the United States.

Kuat Racks is supporting the Union Cycliste Internationale Cyclo-cross World Championships event in only its second time being held in the United States throughout the competition’s 72-year history, according to a news release. The Jan. 28-30, 2022, championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas, have a naming-level sponsor in Walmart Inc. (NYSE: WMT).

Kuat, an international bike rack company, signed on as an official supplier for the event through its sponsorship.

“Kuat Racks is excited to help bring world-class events like the 2022 Walmart UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships to northwest Arkansas, which is right in our backyard,” said Luke Kuschmeader, the Springfield company's president, in the release.

The release did not disclose the financial terms of the sponsorship deal.

Roughly 300 cyclists representing 25 nations are slated to compete in the championships in men's and women's events, according to the release. Cyclo-cross encompasses road cycling, mountain biking and steeplechase, according to USACycling.org.
