Springfield-based Incredible Pizza Co. is making real estate plays in two outside markets.

Incredible Pizza recently announced plans to enter the Kansas City market , as well as a relocation and expansion in San Antonio, Texas.

In Shawnee, Kansas, Incredible Pizza is leasing a 73,000-square-foot building that had housed PowerPlay — a similar concept with arcade games, laser tag and go-karts — before its closure in September. Incredible Pizza is investing $4 million to renovate the building with plans to open in February 2020, according to a news release.

"We have wanted to expand into the Kansas City area for a long time," said Rick Barsness, Incredible Pizza founder and CEO, in the release. "It was a long journey to find enough space to house all the operations of an Incredible Pizza. When this building became available, it was an easy decision.”

Plans include 14 rides, attractions and more than 100 video and arcade games, as well as a pizza and fried chicken buffet.

Last week, Incredible Pizza announced in a separate news release that it would take on 73,000 square feet in a 172,000-square-foot former Kmart in San Antonio. Officials said the entertainment center has a $7 million price tag.

The attraction and restaurant is expected to open next month. It’s a relocation for Incredible Pizza, which has done business in San Antonio since 2006. The release indicated Incredible Pizza currently operates 10 stores. The company’s Springfield store was expanded in 2015 through a $1 million investment that included the renovation of the former Party City location.

In San Antonio, PF Properties LLC is renovating the former Kmart with full completion expected by 2020, according to a LoopNet.com listing.

IncrediblePizza.com lists six U.S. locations, and past SBJ reporting indicates the company operates in Mexico, as well.
