Ozarks Food Harvest’s annual Hungerthon fundraiser brought in the most donations to date.
The radiothon in partnership with iHeartMedia raised $253,550, a nearly 62% increase from last year's record of $156,564, according to a news release issued yesterday afternoon. The fundraiser started Friday and came to a close Monday morning.
"We were incredibly grateful for the opportunity to partner with four stations this year,” said Bart Brown, Ozarks Food Harvest's president and CEO, in the release, referring to FM stations US97, Alice 95.5, The Wolf 100.5 and KGBX 105.9. “Donations for this program are needed now more than ever, and it was amazing to see how the community showed up to help children facing hunger by donating over the phone and online.”
The funding allows Ozarks Food Harvest to send more than 1,600 school children home with backpacks full of food over the weekends throughout the entire academic year.
The new Hungerthon record came despite its previous emcees for two decades, Kevin Howard and Liz Delany, not working the event this year. Howard and Delany were laid off Jan. 15 from 105.9.
The duo since has landed a new morning show gig on 98.7 The Dove, a soft rock station launched as part of Columbia-based Zimmer Midwest Communications Inc.'s takeover of Springfield-based Meyer Communications Inc., according to past reporting.
Utah-based gourmet cookie chain Crumbl Cookies opened its first Springfield shop; interior design business Branson Upstaging LLC relocated; and Lauren Ashley Dance Center LLC added a second location.
