The Springfield-Greene County Health Department is relocating one of its clinics that serve recipients of the supplemental nutrition program for women, infants and children known as WIC.

The clinic currently located at 1720 W. Grand St., inside Jordan Valley Community Health Center, is expected to open to WIC members on Jan. 6 at its new home in the Preferred Family Healthcare building at 1111 S. Glenstone Ave., according to a news release. The Grand Street WIC clinic is closing to the public and starting the relocation process on Dec. 24.

“The new location on Glenstone will provide more clinic space for WIC staff and members to utilize, and it allows us to bring WIC services to a more central location in Greene County,” said Tara Williams, WIC program coordinator for the Health Department, in the release. “The decision to move was made with WIC members in mind, and we are looking forward to providing services at the new location in 2025.”

Lauren Stockam, public health program representative for the Health Department, said via email that the WIC clinic's new space on Glenstone Avenue spans 1,419 square feet on the first floor of the building. That compares with 950 square feet at the Jordan Valley space.

The Health Department's website also lists WIC clinics at 2105 W. Kearney St., 2701 S. Blackman Road, 1518 E. Dale St., 649 E. Elm St. in Republic and 304 S. Farmer Road in Willard.

The Health Department earlier this month announced that the Missouri Department of Health & Senior Services would provide nearly $1.9 million in fiscal 2025 for the local WIC program, up from nearly $1.8 million in fiscal 2024.

During fiscal 2024, the Health Department served 10,886 pregnant individuals, infants and children in Greene County through its WIC contract with the state. WIC services, through which recipients receive food such as milk and bread, are available based on an income eligibility threshold that's 185% of the federal poverty level.
