The Greene County Commission is scheduled to vote on Friday to adopt the municipality's annual budget.

The commission held 19 public meetings on the budget, which includes expenses of $265.7 million, according to a news release. That's up from $233.7 million when the commission passed the 2020 budget last January, according to past reporting.

“The budget process is a large undertaking, and this year, as we do every year, the county worked hard to develop a final budget that balances needs to available funds,” Presiding Commissioner Bob Dixon said in the release. “Citizens can be proud to know there is a great deal of effort and dedication on all levels at the county to make this happen.”

More than $10.3 million in requests from county offices were cut from the final budget total. The total general revenue fund is $76.6 million.

The county's budget highlights most notably point to roughly $77 million for the Greene County Sheriff’s Office and Jail project near the Springfield-Branson National Airport. Construction started last year on the $127 million, 330,000-square-foot project that’s slated for completion in 2022.

The budget also includes $2.6 million to hire 101 staff members for the sheriff's office and over $1 million to replace and equip 33 vehicles for the department, according to the release.
