Greene County Associate Circuit Judge Mark Powell, who recently was retained by voters, announced his retirement from the bench.
In a Jan. 17 letter to Paul Wilson, chief justice of the Supreme Court of Missouri, Powell indicated his last day would be May 15.
"At the time of my retirement I will have served 23 years on the bench," Powell wrote in the letter, a copy of which was provided to members of the Springfield Metropolitan Bar Association in a newsletter. "I would like to thank the citizens of Greene County. Without their confidence and support, I would not have had the continued opportunity to serve as a judge. I will never forget the responsibility they placed in me."
Powell was appointed associate circuit judge in 2000, according to his profile at GreeneCountyCourts.org.
In November, Powell was retained along with a selection of state and local judges by voters, according to past reporting.
