St. Louis-based furniture and mattress retailer Weekends Only is taking on the former Vatterott College building in south Springfield for a new store.
Construction is currently underway to renovate the 63,000-square-foot space in time for a planned late May opening, according to a news release. The store is located at 3850 S. Campbell Ave. at the Primrose Street intersection. Financial details of the plans were undisclosed in the release.
“Our weekends-only model allows us to keep our overhead costs low, assuring that our customers will never overpay for their furniture and mattresses,” Weekends Only President and CEO Lane Hamm said in the release of the store concept that operates on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
The Weekends Only store in Springfield is the company's eighth location in Missouri. The company was founded in 1997.
The company plans to hire more than 50 employees for the Springfield store, according to the release.
Vatterott College closed at the property in late 2018.
Utah-based gourmet cookie chain Crumbl Cookies opened its first Springfield shop; interior design business Branson Upstaging LLC relocated; and Lauren Ashley Dance Center LLC added a second location.
