Project description: Fronting U.S. Highway 65 with a five-acre lot, CarMax is a new addition to the Springfield market. Company spokesperson Nicole Rappaport said each CarMax store typically has between 200 and 400 used vehicles on the lot and offers both online and in-person buying. With more than 220 locations in 41 states throughout the United States, CarMax will transfer virtually any used vehicle in its inventory to a local store. CarMax sold nearly 750,000 used cars and 450,000 wholesale vehicles in fiscal 2021, Rappaport said. The Springfield store will be the fourth CarMax location in the state and will offer such perks as home delivery, private appointments and contactless curbside pickup. Rappaport declined to disclose the cost and completion date for the project; however, in a June 2018 statement, a company spokesperson noted the company typically invests $10 million to $25 million on new locations.
