Four candidates in the running for SPS board

Posted online

Voters will have four Springfield Public Schools Board of Education candidates to consider at the April 8 ballot box.

The district has finalized the certification of signatures and on Friday presented a certified list of candidates to the Greene County clerk's office, according to a news release. Candidates had to turn in 500 signatures in support of their campaigns by the end of December.

The certified candidates, in alphabetical order, are as follows:
• Kelly Byrne, incumbent board member and managing partner of development company Say You Can LLC
• Sarah Hough, senior manager for community and outfitter engagement at Bass Pro Shops
• David Myers, aircraft paint technician at Ozark Aeroworks LLC
• Gail Smart, community volunteer

The seats currently held by Byrne and board member Steve Makoski are up for grabs. Makoski previously signaled that he would not seek reelection.

The SPS Board of Education has seven members who serve three-year terms.
