Former US attorney joins Husch Blackwell

Tim Garrison, former U.S. attorney for the Western District of Missouri, joined Husch Blackwell LLP's Springfield office.

Garrison said this morning he started as a partner at the firm on March 15. It’s the first time in his career that he’s worked in private practice.

“I came straight out of law school into the Marine Corps and from the Marine Corps to the U.S. attorney’s office,” he said.

Garrison said he has known Husch Blackwell Chairperson-elect Catherine Hanaway for years, going back to her time as speaker of the Missouri House of Representatives, and noted Jeff Jensen, former U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri, also joined Husch Blackwell following his exit from the government post.

At Husch Blackwell, Garrison is serving in the firm’s government compliance, investigation and litigation practice group.

"He has conducted sensitive investigations on high-profile matters with national media scrutiny, trained and led large legal and military teams, and advised leaders in virtually every setting," Garrison’s profile on HuschBlackwell.com reads. "Whether shoulder to shoulder with commanders in combat, guiding executives in board rooms or advising cabinet officials at the White House, Tim helps them implement practical solutions to complex legal challenges, always with compliance top of mind."

In his role as U.S. attorney, Garrison oversaw around 130 district staff members, including roughly 65 assistant U.S. attorneys covering 66 counties, according to past Springfield Business Journal reporting.

He submitted his resignation last month to President Joe Biden after serving as U.S. attorney for three years. In a standard move during a presidential transition, the Biden administration last month removed nearly all of the remaining federal prosecutors appointed by the Trump administration.

Prior to Garrison’s role leading the Western District office, the Springfield native worked as assistant U.S. attorney for 10 years. He previously served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

At the local Husch Blackwell office, Garrison joins eight other partners led by Managing Partner Bryan Wade.

Garrison comes to Husch Blackwell as the law firm prepares to move its Springfield office. The company is relocating from Hammons Tower, where it’s operated since 1997, to an office building development on East Sunshine Street, according to past reporting.
