Springfield's first marijuana dispensary is transitioning to a new name next month after it was acquired last year.
Humansville-based Flora Farms LLC is planning a Nov. 1 launch of its own branded dispensary at 2823 N. Glenstone Ave., the current home of Old Route 66 Wellness LLC, according to a news release. Flora Farms President Mark Hendren previously told Springfield Business Journal that the company purchased Old Route 66 Wellness in 2023 and took over operations of the store in March this year.
With the rebranding, Flora Farms' nearby Springfield dispensary at 2027 N. Glenstone Ave. is slated to close Oct. 31. The Flora Farms shop at the Old Route 66 Wellness site will be the company's sole dispensary in Springfield after the transition is finalized.
Old Route 66 Wellness was the first dispensary to open in Springfield in late 2020 following Missourians' approval of medical marijuana sales in the state, according to past reporting. The state’s recreational marijuana market launched last year.
Flora Farms also announced in the release that it would open a dispensary in Joplin on Nov. 7.
“At Flora Farms, our goal is to make cannabis shopping as comfortable and accessible as possible,” said Mary Kate Black, director of retail at Flora Farms, in the release. “With the expansion into Joplin and the rebranding of the larger Springfield location, we’re continuing our mission to provide premium cannabis products in a welcoming environment."
Flora Farms’ website currently lists six dispensaries.
