Ernie Biggs closing downtown after two decades in business

Ernie Biggs Dueling Piano Bar, a downtown Springfield staple for two decades, is closing its doors.

The 312 South Ave. bar and live music venue announced in a Facebook post yesterday that it would shutter after this weekend.

"After 22 incredible years, the time has come to close our doors for the foreseeable future due to financial challenges," the post reads. "This decision has not been easy, as Ernie Biggs has been more than just a business – it’s been a home for unforgettable nights, shared laughter and countless memories made together. We are deeply grateful for the love and support you’ve shown us over the years."

Founded in 2003, Ernie Biggs changed ownership in September 2023 to Mark Oldham and Ryan Neas from Jay Hickman and Daniel Bryan, according to past Springfield Business Journal reporting. Oldham said at the time that the venture is owned via Biggs One LLC for the property and Biggs Two LLC for the business.

The Ernie Biggs Facebook post indicated its road shows, which bring the venture's piano crew to outside events, would continue.

The downtown Springfield Ernie Biggs is the last remaining for the venture, which also had locations in Branson, Kansas City and Little Rock, Arkansas, over the years.

Ernie Biggs is the second downtown Springfield bar to close this month, following Tropical Liqueurs at 420 S. Campbell Ave., Ste. 100.
