The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is recognizing local over-the-road trucking and logistics company Wilson Logistics Inc. as a freight industry leader.

Wilson Logistics is slated to be honored this afternoon at a virtual ceremony for the annual SmartWay Excellence Awards, according to a news release.

The awards, which go to seven companies today, recognize truck carriers, logistics providers and freight shippers as industry leaders in supply chain, environmental and energy efficiency issues.

“Freight partners have a direct impact on all our region’s communities as they provide an essential service to our citizens," said Edward Chu, acting EPA Region 7 administrator, in the release. “We commend them for their voluntary environmental vigilance and invite other companies to join them in helping tackle the climate crisis.”

The specific criteria for Wilson Logistics’ award selection was not provided by deadline.

The other Missouri companies receiving awards today are Artur Express Inc. in Hazelwood, Contract Freighters Inc. in Joplin, Hogan Transports Inc. in St. Louis, Roehl Transport Inc. in Kansas City, USXL Worldwide in Foristell and Woody Bogler Trucking Co. in Gerald, according to the release.

Wilson Logistics is in the midst of building a new corporate headquarters in Strafford, with an administration building slated for completion in May next year, according to past Springfield Business Journal reporting.
