Springfield-based Emery Sapp & Sons Inc. appointed a new member to its board of directors.

Amy Allen, chief administrative officer and general counsel for the heavy civil general contractor, is the first woman in the company's 50-year history to be appointed to a board role, according to a news release.

“I’ve long shared Emery Sapp’s belief that we can change lives through employee-ownership and transform the communities in which we build," she said in the release. "I’m excited to bring my expertise and capabilities to the board level to keep pushing the boundaries of what’s possible for ESS and all of our companies.”

Allen, who is based out of ESS' Kansas City office, joined the company in early 2020. Before that, she was general counsel and a board member for Kansas City marketing firm Barkley for six years.

Allen joins other board members Glen Robertson, Pete Grathwohl, Keith Bennett, Robert Gillis, Tim Paulson and Shawn Sapp, said Sarah Brown, senior marketing coordinator for ESS.

Locally, ESS is serving as general contractor for the infrastructure component of the upcoming Imagine Resorts & Hotels development in Hollister, as well as the extension of Kansas Expressway in Springfield.
