East Coast faces gas shortages, price hikes after pipeline leak

A leak in a section of the Colonial Pipeline is threatening to drive up prices and leave service stations without fuel to sell in the eastern United States.

The portion of the pipeline running from Houston, Texas, to New York has been closed since Sept. 9 after a leak caused a spill of 6,000 barrels of gasoline in Shelby County, Ala.

The pipeline reportedly provides 50 million people on the East Coast with gas each day.
