Dublin's Pass is planning a second restaurant in the former Great American Taco Co. space on East Battlefield Road.

Colton Huff, co-owner of Dublin's Pass through Ozarks Events LLC, said the company is targeting a Feb. 1 opening date at 2915 E. Battlefield Road.

Huff said the company is "trying to take advantage of the success we've had with Dublin's post-COVID."

Ozarks Events purchased the business in 2020, Huff said, noting a full remodel of the restaurant's downtown location, 317 Park Central East, was conducted, along with a menu revamp.

"For 2022, what's really got us motivated, this year we won first place, top entree in Taste of Springfield, and we also won first place at Wingapalooza for best Buffalo wings," he said.

Huff said Dublin's Pass is occupying 3,000 square feet comprising the bottom floor of the former Great American Taco building. The company signed a five-year lease with an option for 15 years for undisclosed terms with Magers Management Co., he said.

The menu at Dublin's Pass includes Scottish eggs, wings, burgers, sandwiches and fish and chips, according to the company's website.

The Great American Taco spot recently became available.

Restaurateur Pat Duran on Oct. 29 announced in a public Facebook post that he was closing Great American Taco Co. and sister restaurant Hard Knox BBQ to focus on Metropolitan Grill and spend more time with family.

"The COVID era aged me a little, and in doing so it showed me a path: Less is more," Duran said in the Facebook post. "In life and business, there is no success without failures, and failures create the recipe for new success."

Metropolitan Grill is in another Magers Management property nearby Great American Taco Co., which Duran launched in 2013 as Springfield Gourmet Taco Co., according to past reporting. The name changed to Great American Taco Co. in 2015. A second Great American Taco Co. opened in 2018 at Magers Crossing, and in 2020, Duran replaced it with Retro Metro. He sold Retro Metro to Brandon and Hana Moore this year.

Duran, who purchased Metropolitan Grill in 2006, opened Hard Knox BBQ next door in 2019, according to past Springfield Business Journal reporting.
