Drury begins search for new women’s basketball head coach

Posted online

Drury University is on the hunt for a new head women’s basketball coach following last week’s exit by Amy Eagan.

Eagan, who led the program to an 87-9 record over her three years at the helm, was announced March 28 as the new head coach at Lindenwood University, according to a news release. The St. Charles school finished its first year as an NCAA Division I program for the 2022-23 season.

“I want to thank Drury University, the athletics department, my players, my staff, boosters and the Springfield community for all their support the last four years,” Eagan said in the release. “The memories made here will last a lifetime and I will forever be grateful. Drury will always hold a special place in my heart.”

During her tenure, Eagan, who was the fifth head coach for the program, guided Drury to a Great Lakes Valley Conference championship in all three of her seasons. She was named the NCAA-II Coach of the Year by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association in 2021 and was the GLVC Coach of the Year in 2023.

Eagan came to Drury in 2019, where she served as an assistant coach under Molly Miller. After Miller departed Drury in 2020 to become the head coach at Grand Canyon University in Arizona, Eagan was named the program’s new leader days later, according to past Springfield Business Journal reporting.

“I want to thank Amy Eagan for everything she did for Drury University and the Lady Panthers basketball program,” Drury Vice President and Director of Athletics Nyla Milleson said in the release. “Four years ago, she chose to come to Drury as an assistant, having already established herself as an outstanding head coach. When the opportunity came for her to take over our program, she produced championship teams, the Lady Panthers were national contenders every year and her players excelled academically. Her teams personified excellence in academics and athletics.”

Eagan takes a career record of 275-151 to Lindenwood. In addition to Drury, she had head coaching stops at Truman State University, her alma mater, as well as Ashford University and St. Ambrose University, both in Iowa.

A national search for the Lady Panthers next head coach is underway, according to the university.
