Downtown's Holland building sells

The century-old Holland building in downtown Springfield is under new ownership.

The Casey family sold the 205 Park Central East property to Dr. Bradley and Christine Newberry, effective Dec. 29, according to a news release. The financial terms were undisclosed; however, a deed of trust for the property on file with the Greene County recorder's office shows a note amount of $2.4 million between Newberry Family Investments LLC and UMB Bank.

"Mary Lou and I love that building," said Allen Casey, managing member of the seller, in the release. "We love the square, and we love the history of Springfield‘s downtown, but we now reside in San Antonio, Texas, so it’s a challenge to take care of your prized possession that far away. And after 20 years, we felt it was time to pass the property on to someone new.”

The Caseys became only the second family to own the building when they purchased it in 2000. They invested $2.5 million renovating it, and they had it placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Newberrys’ five-story building has 40 office occupants and two restaurant tenants: Rise and European Cafe. They plan to make "several significant additional renovations and upgrades" and consider new amenities, according to the release. Reached via email, Allen Casey said the building is about 85% occupied.

Attorney Chip Sheppard of Carnahan Evans PC represented the seller in the transaction.

The Holland property on the square was built in 1914 by Louise Holland Jarrett and her husband, Cliff, as a memorial to her father, T.B. Holland, according to the release.
