Downtown sandwich shop to close brick-and-mortar space

Posted online

A downtown restaurant that started in a bar before becoming a stand-alone venture is closing its brick-and-mortar space.

The Sandwich Scene, which operates at 208 W. McDaniel St., announced in a Dec. 6 Facebook post that it would close at year's end.

"Unfortunately, my health challenges have reached a point where I need to step back and focus on taking care of myself," the post signed by owner Mack Musgrave reads. "As much as I wish I could keep going, I simply can’t give this business, our team or our amazing customers the energy and dedication you all deserve."

The post indicates plans to bring the concept back via future pop-ups.

“There are sandwiches we’ve dreamed up but couldn’t launch, and we’ll bring them to life with friends down the line,” the post reads.

The Sandwich Scene opened at its current spot on McDaniel Street – the former home of Slider’s – in June 2021, according to past reporting. The company, which previously did business as Secret Sandwich Shop LLC, had operated since 2020 inside Sweet Boy’s Neighborhood Bar.

The Sandwich Scene's menu includes sandwiches such as Cashew Later, Dudes with roasted chicken, cashew sauce, cream cheese and cashews.
