Double Jump Media helps NY company raise $300K

Recent work from a Springfield video production company helped a Brooklyn, New York-based business smash its crowdfunding campaign goal by over 1,500%.

Double Jump Media produced a video for medical device developer Thermbot Inc., as part of a July campaign to raise funds for the company’s contactless thermometer, according to a news release. The Kickstarter campaign, which launched July 24, raised $301,959 with 3,016 backers as of Nov. 1. Its $18,000 goal was reached within seven hours after the page went live, according to the release.

Double Jump Media officials say Thermbot approached them about the collaboration in June, as the company sought a more creative spin to its pre-existing, straightforward video script.

“What we were able to accomplish in partnership with Thermbot shows that the Midwest filmmakers can play with the ‘big boys’ on the coasts,” said Ben Clayton, Double Jump Media CEO, in the release. “The cost of living here helps to keep our pricing lower than our competitors’ in bigger cities, but more and more we see clients realizing that that doesn’t mean we sacrifice on the creative or the quality. In fact, it can mean just the opposite.”

Thermbot’s apprehension around mentioning COVID-19 or illness in general to sell the thermometers provided an opportunity for the Springfield agency to get inventive in the campaign, said Merry Fidler, Double Jump Media creative director.

“The temptation to use current events to sell a product makes sense and can feel like a slam dunk, but we were able to make a lighthearted story that doesn’t even mention sickness of any kind once,” Fidler said in the release.

Clayton founded the company in 2014, which has a client list including AT&T Inc., Expedia Inc. and Walmart Inc., according to its website.
