Crumbl Cookies, a Utah-based gourmet cookie chain, is coming to Springfield.

Trevor Curtis, a franchisee of the company through Curtis Industries LLC, said a May or June opening is planned on the north side near the Walmart Supercenter at Glenstone Avenue and Kearney Street. A lease agreement is still being negotiated for the storefront.

"When Springfield came open, I was super pumped," Curtis said, noting the corporate business recently gave the go-ahead for franchisees to target the Springfield market. "I used to cover Springfield in pharmaceutical sales way back when. Springfield is such a unique place. I love the atmosphere there."

Curtis said another franchisee, Steve Wallace, is planning to open a Crumbl Cookies on the south side near Target. The north-side store is projected to launch first, Curtis said, noting corporate is allowing two locations in Springfield for the time being. Wallace confirmed to Springfield Business Journal plans to open a location in the Queen City.

At Curtis' shop, startup costs are around $600,000, he said.

Curtis Industries currently has two Crumbl Cookies shops in the Kansas City metro area, where the franchise company is based, Curtis said. After the Springfield store launches, he plans to open two more in the Kansas City area.

"Seeing what Crumbl has meant to Kansas City, I just was so fired up to bring it Springfield," he said.

Curtis said his son, Stockton, is moving to Springfield to attend Missouri State University and would manage the company's Crumbl Cookies store.

Crumbl Cookies' website lists 718 locations in 47 states. The next closest location to Springfield is in Joplin.

Curtis said Crumbl Cookies has over 200 flavors of cookies, as well as a rotating menu. Takeout, delivery and catering also will be available, he said. Flavors listed on the company's website include milk chocolate chip, churro, blueberry muffin and key lime pie.
