Cox Branson doctor to lead statewide association

Posted online

Dr. Alexander Hover, a local physician who works for Cox Medical Center Branson, was named the 2021-22 president of the Missouri State Medical Association.

Hover, of Ozark, was installed last month to the leadership role for the advocacy organization of nearly 4,000 physicians and medical students, according to a news release and the association's website.

"During his tenure as president, Dr. Hover intends to advocate for the patient-centered practice of medicine unencumbered by inappropriate authorization demands,” officials said in the release, noting he also plans to push for increased health care access for Missourians.

Hover practices in gastroenterology. He previously worked as a physician and senior vice president for Mercy's Smith Glynn Callaway clinic in Springfield, according to the release. In 2012, he was named a fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association.

Also at the MSMA's virtual annual convention last month, Hover's wife, Barbara, was named president of the Missouri State Medical Association Alliance, MSMA’s physicians’ spouse organization, according to the release.

In the position, she will lead the physician spouse group's advocacy efforts for community health and education.
