When Martha Cooper, owner of Cafe Basilico, moved back to Springfield, she had trouble finding a job because job requirements had changed for surgical technicians. Though she had previously owned a restaurant, her experience was primarily cooking at home. Cooper first taught herself to bake, then sold goods at the farmers market. Within three years of changing careers, she opened a brick and mortar restaurant.
