Republic-based Black Lab Coffee Co., which had three shops at its peak, is reducing its store count to one with the closure of a location in Springfield.
The company announced in a Facebook post yesterday that its Galloway Village store at 3541 S. Lone Pine Ave. would close Dec. 22.
"With tears in our eyes and sadness in our hearts, we will be permanently closing. My wife, Christa, was diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer recently and is fighting a tough fight," the post reads. "Alongside this and several other issues like construction restricting the flow of traffic and parking issues, it is in our best interest to shut down this location."
Husband and wife Case Howard and Christa Stephens opened Black Lab's Galloway Village store in September 2021 after buying the Springtown Coffee Co. venture that had operated at the site, according to past Springfield Business Journal reporting.
Black Lab started in Republic in 2018 and expanded to downtown Springfield in late 2020. The downtown store closed last year.
In the Galloway Village announcement, Black Lab officials said the Republic store would remain in operation.
"Come send us off right this weekend and say bye to your favorite baristas. They will now be in Republic," the Facebook post reads.
Springfield event venue Belamour LLC gained new ownership; The Wok on West Bypass opened; and Hawk Barber & Shop closed on a business purchase that expanded its footprint to Ozark.
