CMH to break ground on $9M dialysis center in Bolivar

Posted online

Citizens Memorial Hospital is slated to break ground next month on a multimillion-dollar dialysis center in its hometown of Bolivar.

The 10,000-square-foot facility, at 1160 W. Parkview St., has a projected price tag of $9 million, according to a news release.

CMH CEO Michael Calhoun said at Springfield Business Journal's 12 People You Need to Know interview on Oct. 15 that the dialysis center is the health system's "next big project" after it broke ground last year on a roughly $100 million hospital expansion.

"We're designing a facility that will be state of the art – open space, natural light, an inviting place for people to be where they have to spend hours of their week," Calhoun said at the SBJ event.

J.E. Dunn Construction Co. is serving as general contractor for the dialysis center designed by Kansas City-based Pulse Design Group, according to the release. The project is financed by OakStar Bank.

With an expected opening in fall 2025, the dialysis center is designed to have 16 hemodialysis chairs, each facing large windows with scenic views, CMH officials say. The center also would have a patient room for home peritoneal and hemodialysis education, waiting room, staff support areas and a dialysis water room.

The center additionally would house the CMH Nephrology Clinic, which opened last month in the Douglas Medical Center, according to the release.

The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Nov. 7. The event will be held in the field west of the CMH OB-GYN and Pediatric Clinic and Bolivar Technical College.
