The city of Springfield issued a request for qualifications for a construction manager at risk to conduct renovations at Historic City Hall.
Applications for the work will be accepted through 1 p.m. March 13, according to a news release. The renovation project at 830 N. Boonville Ave. has a construction budget of roughly $10 million.
“Historic City Hall is a Springfield landmark with historical significance that will likely present complex challenges throughout the renovation process,” said Jennifer Swan, city architect and project manager, in the release. “The CMAR contract delivery method is the best way to leverage the expertise of a construction manager, have access to current cost estimates and easily determine alternative solutions as these challenges arise throughout the project.”
Sapp Design Associates Architects PC has been retained as the project architect.
The renovation project at Historic City Hall – home to City Council chambers, the Springfield Fire Department’s administrative staff and other city employees – includes interior work on three occupied floors and upgrades to achieve compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, according to the release.
Council on Feb. 21 heard the first reading of an ordinance to issue special obligation improvement bonds in the amount of $15.5 million. Roughly $6 million is earmarked for Historic City Hall. Read more about the council meeting in Springfield Business Journal's Feb. 27 print edition.
