The Cicis pizza buffet chain is making its return to the Queen City, after its previous franchisees were evicted last year.
James Martin, the new franchisee for the 319 E. Battlefield Road store with business partner Greg Costley, said the restaurant is scheduled to open Monday at the Battlefield Plaza development near the Campbell Avenue intersection.
“We felt like it was our responsibility to the people who like Cicis to get it back open,” Martin said. “We just felt like it was a great opportunity.”
Martin and Costley operate Cicis franchises in Joplin and Rogers, Arkansas. Costley has eight additional franchises in Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas, Martin said.
Martin said he and Costley signed a lease for undisclosed terms to occupy more than 6,000 square feet at Jared Commercial Real Estate LLC’s retail center along Battlefield Road. He declined to disclose the business partners’ investment in the new store, but noted the space was fully renovated with a larger game room and a “better flow for the customers.”
The average investment for a new Cicis franchise restaurant is $686,445 to $1.03 million, according to the company’s website. The website, which lists more than 420 locations in 30 states, in September 2018 began offering incentives to new franchisees, equating to $77,500 in total reductions.
The previous franchisees of the Cicis restaurant at Battlefield Plaza were evicted after a court order in favor of Battlefield Plaza LLC owner Curtis Jared of Jared Enterprises Inc. The evicted franchisees, Dan Nations, of Bellaire, Texas, and Carla Nations, of Dallas, were ordered in May 2018 to pay Battlefield Plaza some $8,000 in unpaid rent, legal fees and court costs, according to past Springfield Business Journal reporting.
Cicis, which recently rebranded to include “Beyond Pizza” in its logo, operates its closest Missouri location in Branson.

Just another reason why we DON'T need another Pizza restaurant/ Buffet chain (aka Pizza Ranch) at Battlefield Mall.
