Charitable pharmacy opening in Branson

Posted online

A charitable pharmacy is slated to soon open in Branson.

My Neighbor’s Charitable Pharmacy is targeting a late January or early February opening at 1232 Branson Hills Parkway, said Henry Irvin, its executive director, via email.

The pharmacy would assist individuals in the region who lack access to medications due to insurance or income.

“Everyone has seen the cost of medication rise, often making it impossible for people to control their chronic conditions or treat a simple infection,” Irvin said in a news release. “The lack of access to medications leads to disease complications and unwanted hospitalizations. Our ability to provide a resource for medications and disease management information in our community is a huge step forward in keeping our neighbors healthy.”

The pharmacy will be located next to the relocated Faith Community Health, which provides income-based primary care, mental health, vision and prescriptions for the medically underserved in Stone and Taney counties.

The pharmacy also represents a partnership and expansion of a program at Faith Community Health, said Irvin.

Faith Community Health has provided medications with the oversight of an on-site health care provider, rather than a pharmacist, said Irvin, who has a Doctor of Pharmacy degree.

"Because it is overseen by the provider, FCH has only been able to give medication to the patients who are seen by that provider," he said via email. "Becoming a stand-alone charitable pharmacy allows us to continue to partner with FCH to serve their patients, but also to serve those in the community that qualify based on lack of prescription insurance or income restrictions, regardless of the provider that they see."

My Neighbor’s Charitable Pharmacy will charge a monthly administrative fee for patients who qualify based on income and lack of prescription insurance, according to the release.
