YOUR BUSINESS AUTHORITY
Springfield, MO
Get to know one of the region's top business executives and what makes them tick in work and life.
Q: What makes SGF unique to you?
A: I find most of my neighbors regard Springfield as their destination rather than just a pit stop along their journey. I imagine this contributes to the remarkable culture of intentionality and pride I see in our city. It creates neighborhoods full of neighbors who want to live here, who want to invest here. We are a community who celebrates our city and are grateful to call SGF home – a community who tattoos the SGF flag on their forearm. If this is you, reader, please stop by so I can buy you a beer!
Q: What inspired you to start your business here?
A: This is easy. Opportunity. I want to build the city I want to live in. Five years ago, my wife and I moved into the Rountree neighborhood and built a small craft brewery and local gathering spot. A typical day begins with a walk (rather than a commute) to work. A typical lunch includes any number of savory fares enjoyed on any number of sun-soaked patios. A typical weekend never disappoints, permeating our vibrant business district with live music and infectious laughter. And a typical summer showcases a myriad of festivals inspiring friends, family and neighbors to celebrate life and community. I want to live in the city I build, and we found an opportunity in SGF to do just that.
Q: What aspects of the community and culture make you proud?
A: Our ability to successfully and responsibly grow our city through empathy and compromise. I believe the long-term, sustainable growth and development of our city requires us, as a community, to be willing to view our local challenges through the opposition’s perspective. Only by living a day in our neighbor’s shoes can we fully realize Springfield’s potential. I wear a size 9. How ‘bout you?
Q: What do you think Springfield’s catch phrase should be, and why?
A: “Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop.” You’re either growing or you’re dying. I wonder what direction SGF is headed. Perhaps ballot Question 1 will offer some insight on Nov. 8.
Q: Where do you predict you’ll be in five years?
A: I don’t do predictions, but I hope to be richer in every sense of the word.
