Central Bank of the Ozarks named Joselyn Baldner as the 64-year-old organization's first female president as part of a succession plan at the company.

The bank's board on Jan. 21 elected Baldner as president and chief operating officer, effective immediately, according to a news release. As president, she succeeds Russ Marquart, who is staying on as CEO and board chairperson ahead of his planned phased retirement.

Central Bank spokesperson Andrew Tasset said via email that a definitive date for Marquart's retirement has not been set and that "no one other than Joselyn is part of the succession planning for Russ."

Baldner, who has 23 years of bank management experience, started in 2005 at Central Bank and took on the executive vice president and chief retail officer role in 2014, according to the release.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to continue the legacy of a remarkable community bank, and fortunate to be working for a dedicated team of employees and board members,” Baldner said in the release. “Russ has provided an excellent example of bank leadership for me to follow, and I look forward to working with him during this transition."

Marquart is working toward retirement after more than 30 years with Central Bank. He had been president and CEO since 2006.

“Joselyn has more than demonstrated over the years that she is a true leader as our chief retail officer and is certainly ready and well qualified for this new role and responsibility,” Marquart said in the release. “My plans are to work with Joselyn to ensure a successful transition and will stay involved with the bank as CEO and chairman of the board.”

Central Bank of the Ozarks ranked No. 3 on Springfield Business Journal's 2020 list of the area's largest banks and savings banks, with $1.4 billion in Springfield metro area deposits as of June 30. The company also reported 254 employees, 22 local branches and local assets of $1.6 billion.
