A new mobile app that aims to connect Springfield-area businesses with consumers is in the "awareness phase" after its recent launch, according to its owner.
Aaron Phares said Ozarks Connect, available on Apple's App Store and the Google Play Store, got its start in September. It's had more than 400 downloads to date, he said.
"We're in that awareness phase of trying to let everyone know we're here," Phares said.
Ozarks Connect, which serves Springfield, Nixa, Ozark, Republic, Willard and surrounding communities, offers a business directory, featured business listings, special offers, Bluetooth proximity marketing and community connection services such as events and job listings.
"The heart and soul of it is that support of local businesses and giving them access to mobile tech tools to connect with their customers," Phares said.
Phares said Ozarks Connect currently has more than 20 featured businesses who are paid users. The company's website lists subscription tiers starting at $150, and Phares said the app is free to consumers to download and use it, as well as for businesses that want to list basic information.
"We try to include anyone and everyone as much as possible in the basic listings," he said. "Any business can add their information there."
The Bluetooth proximity service feeds app users promotions if they come within a certain distance of a paid business account, said Phares. A new user promotion currently running through Nov. 23 allows consumers the opportunity to win gift cards to Gailey’s Breakfast Cafe and The Coffee Ethic, Phares said, noting Ozarks Connect also plans to attend the planned debut this month of College Station Theaters, a client of the company, to help market the business.
Declining to disclose startup expenses, Phares said the business has a virtual office in the Efactory. Phares, who brings work experience in the technology industry to the company and has a computer science minor, is operating his first app through Ozarks Connect, he said.
Phares' LinkedIn profile indicates his career experience includes work at Forvis Mazars and Black Lantern Studios.
