Branson alderman resigns

Posted online

Branson Board of Aldermen member Kevin McConnell submitted his resignation as he moves out of the Ward III area he represents.

An alderman for three years, McConnell's current term ends in April 2021. He plans to exit the board Aug. 7, according to a news release.

"It was a pleasure serving the city of Branson," he said in his resignation letter, according to the release.

The city this morning began accepting applications to fill the position. The release cited state statute in indicating the mayor would choose an applicant from the list and submit the name to the aldermen for approval. The chosen individual would serve the remainder of McConnell's term, according to the release.

The Branson Board of Aldermen last month swore in two new members: Jeff Seay of Ward II and Jamie Whiteis of Ward III. Incumbent Bill Skains also was sworn into his new term after the June 2 general municipal election. Branson aldermen serve two-year terms.

The board recently gave its unanimous stamp of approval to an expansion of the Entertainment Community Improvement District. The expansion adds more than 170 businesses to the special taxing area, in a move that’s expected to increase sales tax revenue roughly tenfold to $4.5 million annually, according to past Springfield Business Journal reporting.
