Branson Airport increased its staff ahead of a service expansion by Denver-based Frontier Airlines.

Ty Lewis, deputy director of marketing for the airport, said 15 full-time hires were made over the last two months, bringing the total staff to around 100 people.

Denver-based Frontier, the only major airline providing service at Branson Airport, early this year announced it would add nonstop flights to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport and Chicago O’Hare International Airport from Branson Airport, starting May 1. Lewis said Frontier’s flights to Denver from Branson start this weekend.

A news release issued this morning by Branson Airport pointed to an estimated $25 million in additional visitor spending brought on by Frontier’s new flights to Texas and Illinois. Frontier grew its seat count at Branson Airport by 360% this year, officials say.

Branson Airport, which in May marks 10 years of service, has brought in roughly 1.2 million passengers since its launch, according to the release.

Frontier last summer returned to Branson Airport after discontinuing service in 2014. After Frontier and Dallas-based Southwest Airlines (NYSE: LUV) left Branson Airport in 2014, the airport relied largely on charter flights, according to Springfield Business Journal archives. Via Air also operates an Austin, Texas, route.
