Boys & Girls Clubs expands to Marshfield

Posted online

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield is expanding its services to Marshfield.

Beyond adding a club in late summer for the Marshfield R-I School District, the expansion fills a need for school children in the community. BGCS will provide programming during school hours on Monday, which is no longer a school day after the district shifted to a four-day week, according to a news release.

"This will be a great opportunity for our students on those Mondays when school is not in session. Students will be able to continue learning from what is taking place in the classroom and further learning in other specific areas of interest for them," said Mike Henry, the district's superintendent, in the release. "BGCS has a tremendous history of providing a safe environment for students while offering tremendous programming as well."

Didem Koroglu, BGCS director of development, said via email that the nonprofit is responsible for staffing the club in Marshfield and currently is hiring. The goal is to serve 200 K-8 students with programming, as well as breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack. The program will be free to club members.

"We are so thankful for the opportunity to work alongside the Marshfield community to ensure a safe, positive, engaging place for kids," BGCS CEO Brandy Harris said in the release.

The Marshfield program is scheduled to start Aug. 29, and registration begins July 25.

BGCS serves more than 13,000 local youth each year through its programming, according to the release.
